Candle Safety Instructions & Care Guide
Luxury should always be safe.
At Luv Crafts, every candle is handcrafted with care. Please read and follow these safety instructions before lighting your candle to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
1) Best Practices (Do This)
Before Lighting
- Trim the wick to 5–7 mm (¼ inch) before every burn.
- Before lighting, carefully remove any decorative elements attached to the wick.
- Remove all packaging before lighting (paper wraps, protective films, dust covers, etc.).
- Place the candle on a stable, heat-resistant, non-flammable surface (a candle plate or tray is ideal).
- Ensure the candle is positioned upright and won’t tip over.
- Keep the candle at least 10 cm (4 inches) away from other candles or heat sources.
- Burn in a well-ventilated room, but away from drafts (fans, open windows, vents).
During Burning
- Always burn within sight.
- Keep the candle out of reach of children and pets.
- Keep the wax pool free of matches, wick trimmings, dust, and debris.
- On the first burn, allow the top wax to melt more evenly to help reduce tunneling (burn-time varies by candle size and environment).
- If the flame becomes too high, flickers excessively, or the candle smokes, extinguish the candle, allow it to cool, trim the wick, and relight.
- Use a candle holder or tray suited to the candle’s size and shape (especially for decorative or carved designs).
After Use
- Extinguish the candle safely (a candle snuffer is recommended).
- Allow wax and container to cool completely before moving.
- Trim the wick again to 5–7 mm before relighting.
- Store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to preserve shape and finish.
2) Important Warnings (Be Careful With This)
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Do not burn for more than 3–4 hours at a time.
- Stop using the candle when 1–2 cm (½ inch) of wax remains (or sooner if the container becomes very hot).
- Keep away from flammable materials such as curtains, paper, books, bedding, and clothing.
- Keep hair, scarves, and loose clothing away from the flame.
- Burning candles can create hot surfaces (wax, glass, metal, ceramic). Avoid touching during use.
- Avoid burning in tight, enclosed spaces or near items that can trap heat.
- Drafts can cause uneven burning, dripping, soot, and flare-ups.
- Handmade candles may show natural variation; monitor burning behavior, especially for decorative or carved shapes.
3) Prohibited Actions (Absolutely Do Not)
- Do not leave a candle burning unattended—ever.
- Do not burn near flammable materials or on unstable surfaces.
- Do not move a candle while it is burning or while wax is liquid.
- Do not extinguish with water (this can splatter hot wax and may crack containers).
- Do not blow aggressively to extinguish (hot wax can splatter); use a snuffer where possible.
- Do not burn in strong drafts (fans, open windows, vents).
- Do not let the flame touch the container walls or decorative elements.
- Do not burn a candle down to the base or until the container overheats.
- Do not place directly on delicate surfaces (wood, lacquer, marble, stone) without a protective plate/tray.
- Do not use a candle if the container is cracked, chipped, or damaged.
- Do not light a candle with a wick longer than recommended.
- Do not allow children to light or handle candles.
- Do not burn multiple candles too close together (heat buildup increases risk).
Additional Safety for Decorative / Carved Candles
Luv Crafts candles may be decorative and intricately carved. Decorative shapes can burn differently from standard pillar candles.
- Always burn on a deep, heat-resistant tray to catch wax flow.
- Remove any tags, strings, ribbons, beads, or embellishments before lighting.
- Decorative outer layers may soften sooner—monitor closely during use.
- Expect natural wax flow patterns; keep the area around the candle clear.
Home Fire Safety Reminder
- Ensure working smoke detectors are installed in your home.
- Keep candles away from escape routes and doorways.
- Keep a fire extinguisher accessible and know how to use it.
Disposal & Cleanup
- Let wax cool completely before disposal.
- Do not pour melted wax into sinks or drains.
- Dispose of wax with household waste unless your local regulations provide a specific disposal method.
- Containers can be reused only after thorough cleaning and once fully cooled.
Compliance & Responsibility Notice
While Luv Crafts candles are made with care, candles are an open flame and require responsible use. Misuse can lead to fire, burns, or property damage. By lighting a candle, you agree to follow these instructions.
